Owens River Gorge, located outside the town of Bishop, has one of the most concentrated number of sport routes in California. The rock is volcanic tuff, and don't be surprised to find bolted cracks and other trad-leadable features - it's all about the sport climbing here. Owens River Gorge is a year-round crag, although summers can get rather hot.

All trails at Mission Trails Regional Park (MTRP) are open, but please continue to practice social distancing when possible. The Kumeyaay Lake Campground has reopened for overnight camping (weekends only), and reservations can be made on through the Campground's webpage. The MTRP Visitor Center has fully reopened, and hours are 9am-5pm daily.

Rock Climbing. Rock climbing has been a vital part of Jumonville's summer camp adventure programs for over 40 years. Most of the rock climbing is done at a nearby area called Greenbriar which is just several miles from Jumonville. Older adventure campers have used Seneca Rocks as well as the New River Gorge.

Doug Reed climbed the New River Gorge's first 5.11-grade climb in 1983, as many more routes (including more 5.11s) were being established. In 1984, the cover of Climbing Magazine featured Tom Howard on the picturesque and aptly named 5.9 climb, Photo Finish. The popularity of the New River Gorge only went up (pun intended) from there.
